Agentic Engineering Lead
You know the gap between a cool AI coding demo and a model real teams can actually trust? That’s the job: build the workflows and guardrails that make agentic engineering work.
Everyone is testing AI coding tools. Very few organizations know how to make them work across real codebases, teams and quality standards.
At Brillian, we want to change that.
We help companies figure out what’s actually worth building with AI, why it matters, and how to make it real in practice.
We’re looking for an Agentic Engineering Lead who can help organizations move from scattered AI coding experiments to structured, scalable and governed engineering models where humans and AI agents can actually work well together.
This is a hands-on role. We don't believe an agentic engineering model can be designed and adopted from outside the team, and we don't believe anyone can credibly coach teams on tools that change every few months without using them daily themselves. In practice, the depth of engagement varies by project. Some are advisory; others start with you embedded full-time in a client team, contributing to actual software delivery, and gradually phasing toward lighter coaching as the team takes ownership. Either way, you stay close enough to real codebases to know how the tools, agents and workflows actually behave, not just how they're supposed to.
What our projects typically look like
Depending on the client and the stage, you might be:
Working as an embedded engineer in client teams when that's the right model — contributing to real software delivery (often full-stack web apps) while the agentic ways of working take shape inside the team
Designing agentic development workflows across the SDLC and proving them out in real codebases, not slide decks
Building shared context layers that keep architecture decisions, codebase knowledge and engineering standards available to both humans and agents
Defining human roles, agent responsibilities, review points, quality gates and boundaries
Coaching teams toward ownership — and evaluating tools, agents and frameworks through the lens of real delivery, informed by your own hands-on use
A good outcome is not “more code generated”, but better software development: faster feedback loops, stronger quality, maintainability, team ownership, shared understanding and manageable cognitive load.
What we value and what usually works well here
You don’t need to be a 100% checklist match. This field is still forming, and we’re more interested in how you think and how you approach complex engineering problems.
The ideal profile combines strong software engineering judgment with AI-forward thinking. You’re excited about what agents can make possible, but you also understand that sustainable software development still needs architecture, ownership, quality practices and human judgment.
A few things we tend to value most:
Engineering depth. You’ve spent years building, reviewing or leading software development, and you know what tends to break when systems grow.
Architecture and systems thinking. You can reason about codebases, dependencies, delivery pipelines, quality practices and long-term maintainability.
AI-forward mindset. You’re hands-on with AI-assisted development, but not blindly hype-driven.
Pragmatism. You know when agents add value, when human judgment is needed and when the safest answer is still “not here, not yet.”
Collaboration and coaching. You can work with engineers, architects, business stakeholders and leadership, and help teams adopt new ways of working.
Ownership. You enjoy shaping the work, not just implementing someone else’s spec.
And yes, practically speaking, experience in these areas helps a lot
Long background in software development, software architecture or technical leadership
Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and the full SDLC
Experience with complex codebases, system design, CI/CD, testing and maintainability
Hands-on experience with coding agents, AI-assisted development or agentic workflows
Ability to define technical standards, guardrails and quality practices
Ability to train, coach and facilitate engineering teams around AI-assisted ways of working
Fluent Finnish skills: our general working language is English, but in this role fluent Finnish is needed when working in client environments.
Bonus: experience building LLM applications, agents or multi-agent systems
Bonus: consulting, advisory or client-facing work
The title matters less than the combination of deep engineering experience, architectural thinking and genuine interest in agentic software development.
What we offer
Cool AI projects don’t pay the bills by themselves, so here’s the practical part:
Salary typically €6000-8000 per month for senior / lead-level profiles, based on your experience and impact
Opportunity for equity for all new Brillians
Hybrid setup from Helsinki or Tampere, with flexibility to focus when it matters
High-ownership work where you’ll help shape both the technical direction and the operating model
A chance to build an emerging capability that many organizations are only starting to understand
A mix of hands-on building, architecture, advisory and client-facing work
Senior-level teammates who value quality, practicality and meaningful AI adoption
We’re small and growing, which means you’ll have a genuine say in how we build our tech, culture and future
What next?
Not sure if you tick every box? That’s okay. This role sits in a space that is still taking shape.
What matters most is that you bring strong software engineering judgment, curiosity around agentic development and the ability to turn abstract ideas into something teams can actually use.
